Best Process of Quitting Porn: Weekly Resolutions over Annual

Date

“Success is a few good habits repeated every day.” – Jim Rohn

It seems like every December your friends have the same question to ask, “What’s your new year’s resolution?”. They’re curious to know how you want to improve. It may be comforting to state life-changing ideas that we promise to keep to. However all too frequently we end up failing to keep these promises. Instead we relapse back into our old ways.

Yearly goals are vague and forgettable

Personally, I haven’t noticed much success with new year resolutions. It sets the bar high for what you would like to achieve during the year. However it doesn’t actually account for how you plan to go about doing it. This could lead to you having grand visions of how you would like your personality to grow. Only to end up sorely disappointed that you weren’t able to keep to your word.

We like to progress, but without an understanding of how we will overcome our demons, it wont work. We disable ourselves from moving forward. This will end up causing discouragement you weren’t able to keep up to your word. Which is the last thing we need.

It Cultivates the Practice of Healthy Goal-setting

Goal-setting is an important skill to master. It could be the difference between achieving success and falling back into our old ways. In order to set goals effectively, we have to understand what we want to achieve. We also need to know how we plan to achieve it. For example, it’s not enough to say, “I want to lose weight” without also saying, “I will eat fewer carbs”. When we state our goals, it’s needed to stress exactly how we plan to achieve them. We also explain what actions we’re willing to take to get it done.

Without this, we leave ourselves open to failure by not vocalizing our intent succinctly. Everyone has dreams, few have a plan on how to achieve them. To set yourself up for success, make sure you’re also following through with your intentions. This is the best way to ensure you successfully make your goals a reality.

The Same Can be Applied to Porn

When it comes to porn, it’s not much different. As with any goal, you don’t want to just think that you plan to quit. You want to make a plan for how you intend to quit. Ask yourself what you will do every time you feel like watching porn? What will you replace porn with to be happier and healthier? It could be a new skill, sport, or any other hobby that helps take your mind off it.

Besides this, there are more issues with setting yearly goals instead of weekly ones. What do you do if you cave and watch porn mid-year? Do you give up and quit entirely? Or do you try again next year? Do you wait until next January to quit again? These problems can be daunting and result in you losing an entire year. Just because you slipped up once out of 365 days in a year.

It’s a Lot Easier to Keep Track of Your Goals

Not only this, but it can be extremely difficult to track your progress during an entire year. Are you writing down your statistics in a journal or talking to someone close to you? What if you forget to make entries when you falter, or your friend moves away and you don’t communicate as much? The fact of the matter is that a lot can change in a year. It’s unwise to assume that the entire year is going to go exactly how you planned.

You can change a lot in a year, and your priorities and situations can change with you. Most times far more than you’d anticipate. In order to combat this, we suggest setting goals with a shorter time frame. This will have several advantages and will allow you a greater chance of achieving your goals.

Instead of saying, “I’m going to quit porn this year”, try breaking up your goal into smaller, more manageable chunks. Say, “this week I will not watch porn”. It’s less pressure on you to succeed, which paradoxically will lead to a higher chance of success.

This way you’ll be able to track which weeks you were the strongest. What stimulated you to resort to porn. You’ll be able to have greater insight into what’s driving you to do certain behaviours. Also you’ll know what to do about it. You’ll be stronger and more motivated because the time frame for your goal is much shorter. This way it doesn’t seem like a herculean task. Instead, all you have to do is not watch porn this week, which doesn’t seem so hard at all.

It Makes Achieving your Goals Easier

By setting weekly resolutions, you’ll find you have a greater ability to stop yourself from behaviours you otherwise couldn’t manage. It’s now far easier to quit watching porn. All you have to do is not watch it for 7 days. On the face of it that doesn’t sound so bad at all. This makes it more likely that you’ll actually stick to it.

Once this is done for a few weeks, you’ll begin to see a new pattern forming. You’ll begin to feel the urges reduce significantly. This is because your old habit is breaking away and you’re finally free from your habit.

Conclusion

Eventually, you won’t even need to push yourself not to watch porn. Instead, it will become the new normal. In order to help you along, we suggest installing porn blocker applications like BlockerX. This helps you keep to your goals. It ensures that you don’t ruin your progress in a moment of weakness. With this tool, you should have all you need to quit porn and begin enjoying life to the fullest!
